Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
