Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
