Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi/low begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The players will need to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants can get flustered. Unlike Hold'em, in which the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It's the identical approach in almost all poker games.

The low hand is more difficult, but really free's up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there's no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems complicated initially, following a few hands you will be able to get the basic subtleties of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming array of betting choices and because you have numerous players trying for the high hand, and a few battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it's worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
