Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
