Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
