Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
