Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
